Q. What is KeepSpace?

A. Rhode Island Housing is taking “working together to bring you home” to a new level. We are reaching out to new partners with varied interests for a comprehensive and cooperative effort to create thriving communities. KeepSpace Communities are living, breathing, growing places where neighbors meet, people work, children play.

Through these unique partnerships, particularly among those who focus on jobs, environment, real estate, and local government, we will combine our expertise, rather than work on isolated parts of land development and preservation. The result: strong, healthy, prosperous communities that use integrated solutions to many of the development and environmental challenges facing Rhode Islanders and their state.

Q. What is a KeepSpace Community?

A. KeepSpace Communities are living, breathing, growing places where neighbors meet, people work, children play. They feature homes that are safe, inviting and affordable while maintaining the natural beauty of the area. Jobs, schools, shops and services are easily connected to each other. Families and commerce prosper in attractive, secure settings that nourish community and purpose.

By developing innovative systems for conserving and renewing resources, and designing homes and buildings that match the workforce needs, KeepSpace Communities thrive economically, socially and environmentally. Foresight and quality are designed into every interdependent building and system, fueling the engine of the KeepSpace promise: constructing and preserving a place in which families can thrive, children can learn and grow, and the Rhode Island community enjoys a sustainable future.

Q. Will there be KeepSpace Communities in my town?

A. All Rhode Island cities and towns, including those in urban, suburban and rural communities, will be eligible to experience the benefits that the KeepSpace initiative can bring. Developers
and city and town planners can work with KeepSpace to find ways to incorporate KeepSpace in their planning. Since KeepSpace Communities will be customized to reflect and respect the local character, traditions and culture of each community, no two KeepSpace Communities will be the same.

Q. How will the value of my home be affected if a KeepSpace Community is built in my neighborhood?

A. KeepSpace Communities will be specifically designed to enhance the social, physical and cultural character of each neighborhood – an integral part of the KeepSpace initiative. In designing neighborhoods that are not only beautiful and safe, but also purposeful and efficient, KeepSpace will work to enhance the value of surrounding homes and businesses.
